Summer of 2018. Wooster, Ohio. Eric was the new guy at work, so when his coworkers asked him to join a town sand volleyball league, he knew it would be a great chance to get to know them better. Aware of their newly formed team's heavy travel schedules, one of Eric's coworkers reached out to Candace Lease to see if she and any friends wanted to join the team, too. Candace and Cece joined, knowing very few people, but willing to contribute with their low-quality volleyball skills and high-quality ability to have a good time. They became friends with Eric and his coworkers and began to spend quite a bit of time with them. It became obvious to the group that Eric needed to pursue Cece or Cece needed to pursue Eric - they didn't care about the details, they just wanted them to date. After many days and evenings playing volleyball, "fam" dinners at the Ercegs, and one particular evening where Candace, Cece, and Eric met up for Mexican food and Candace "didn't feel good" after her margarita (sureee, Candace) so she left them alone for the remainder of the meal, Cece and Eric began to think there was something to this. Their first date was at the Olde Jaol Tavern in Wooster, followed by some drinks in the Prohibition Room. For the drinks, they invited - you guessed it - Candace! They stayed here talking until well after closing time. Subsequent dates followed, then the official boyfriend/girlfriend titles, the "I love yous," and many trips to Northwest Ohio and East Central Kansas. They realized quickly that this relationship was different, and peaceful, and fun, and, really, everything they had been looking for. (Sorry for getting sappy, but it's true).
In October 2020, Eric and Cece went on a romantic date to Walmart to pick up a new home printer, as Cece was about to start a new work-from-home position. When they were leaving, Eric brought up the idea of picking up a meal and going out to Troutman Winery sometime that week. As they neared the middle of the week, Eric asked again when she would like to go to the winery, to which Cece suggested Friday after work. You all see where this is going - but she was focused on her new job and was oblivious to the true purpose of the winery date. Friday after work, Eric came home to change clothes and Cece noticed he was CHIPPER. She thought how nice it was that he was so excited to have a true date night. They picked up a pizza and Eric suggested they walk up to the vineyard and watch the sunset after they eat. Cece thought, "Mmmk, seems a little out of character, but I'll play along." At this moment, she wondered if this would be the night they get engaged (Spoiler: they do). They arrived at the winery and saw their friend Candace (Remember her? Are you sensing a theme?). She works at the winery when she's not selling bull semen (if you know, you know). They chatted with Candace and got a drink, went outside, and ate their pizza. When finished, they walked up the hill past the vineyard... aaand trees were blocking the sunset. Whoops, darn it, Ohio foliage. So, Eric was disappointed and Cece said something to the effect of "well it's still pretty through the trees!" and started walking back toward the winery building. While still in the vineyard, Eric had an "I gotta do this now" realization through the nerves, stopped Cece, dropped to a knee, and proposed. Some sources say Cece didn't even let Eric finish talking before she was hugging him and agreeing. They stood there for a while admiring the ring and each other, and enjoying the moment. Then, they told Candace, had a couple of drinks, and went home to FaceTime their family and friends.
5 Stars - Beautiful couple "5 stars. Beautiful couple. Corn casserole out of this world." - Candace L. 5 stars - Refreshing couple "Very refreshing couple. Enjoyed our premarital classes." - Pastor Jim 5 Stars - Hallmark couple "In Hallmark movies, the couple always unexpectedly meets, the guy is devilishly handsome, the girl is an absolute smoke show, these two dime pieces somehow end up being single AND they are nice people AND they are perfectly cute to each other all the time. And you think to yourself, oh bulls**t. This is not real life... Then you realize that is the plot of Cece and Eric's life + they are fun people to be around. If you are looking to laugh, get big bear hugs, and some cinnamon rolls and chili - look no further. You have found your go-to couple. 10/10 stars." - Summer M. 5 Stars - Great couple, even better friends "Webster's dictionary definition of a "perfect couple" is simply Cece and Eric. They are a great couple, but even better friends. 10/10 would recommend." - Kelsey L.
