August 2016, Brite Divinity School, Fort Worth TX. Betsy was beginning her second year, Derek was beginning his first, and they had two classes together. For her birthday, Betsy invited a big group of people to join her for dinner and conversation. The universe urged Derek to attend. That was the first night they really talked together. They discussed the full moon as it rose over the city, people watched together, and as Betsy drove Derek home, they discussed her love of Zelda and video games, and his love of NASCAR and sports. A few weeks later, they had the chance to talk again at a house party. It was here the spark of love really began for them both. Betsy broke Derek's brain with her conversation, and Derek broke Betsy's brain with his charm. They exchanged phone numbers that night and texted one another almost non-stop the rest of the weekend. (Betsy texted so much, Derek's phone battery died multiple times!) They decided to go out for dinner and a movie to get to know one another the next week. Shortly after, they decided to begin dating officially. Fast forward to Summer 2018. Derek surprised Betsy (not an easy thing to do!) and proposed on July 28, 2018. With their favorite bridge in the background, Derek asked Betsy if they can be teammates for life. Betsy said yes (after calling Derek a buttmunch because she was truly surprised) and the next step was taken in their journey. They prepared for a wedding and then the world broke. They got officially married on May 7, 2020 in the same spot where they got engaged. They didn’t feel comfortable traveling or partying…… until now…..
