We first met at Concordia University during our freshman year at an event called Coffeehouse — a small talent show. Ironically, we were the only two who performed original songs about our recent breakups. We hit it off right away, laughing constantly (though Angel insists I just laughed at him). Later that night, Angel called his parents and said, “This Sophie girl is pretty awesome and insanely talented. She laughed at all my jokes, which is cool too.” His dad, Frank, still remembers that call and says he knew right then that I was someone special. Over the next few years, we grew close through friendship, music, and all the ups and downs of college life. During our junior year, we tried dating but realized we both needed time to heal and grow. So, in the summer of 2024, we decided to take a 40-day “fast” from each other — no contact, just prayer and reflection to discern where God was leading us. Those 40 days ended on June 7th, 2024 — a date that now marks the beginning of our relationship and holds deep meaning for us both. Since then, we’ve sought to keep Christ at the center of our relationship and are beyond excited to be married on our special date. After the wedding, we’ll be moving to St. Louis, where Angel will study at Concordia Seminary to become a pastor, and I’ll be serving full-time as a worship leader. The first few years of our marriage will bring lots of change — we’ll be moving every year for the next four years — but we’re grateful to walk this journey together, trusting in God’s faithfulness and surrounded by the love and encouragement of our family and friends.
