Kyle and Mary technically met on "the apps" in June 2018, but didn’t start dating until winter 2019—classic slow burn. Their first official date. A powder day at Mt. Bohemia. They skied all day, shared snacks in the car, and pushed themselves to ski their little hearts out (because, obviously, they were trying to impress each other). Pretty sure it was the best either of them had ever skied. Mary hadn’t planned on staying more than a night, but a snowstorm shut down both NMU and MTU, and the highway became a no-go. So she stayed—for days. By the time the roads reopened, something between them had shifted. The following year, they were basically inseparable at MTU. Surfing after class (and sometimes instead of class), partying at Bet Sigs, taking Rec & Tourism with Professor Jarvi, skiing Boho every chance they got—and when the pandemic hit, they played to the max with zero tourists in sight. They built beach forts. Hiked with friends. Crawled through old mines. Built an indoor climbing wall. Cooked lakeside dinners. And soaked in what they thought might be their last golden days in the Keweenaw. From there, it’s been one long stretch of adventure and good chaos. They bounced around Michigan. Road-tripped out West. Slept in the back of their Volvo wagon and in the woods. Drove across Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. Surfed and skied more. Moved back to the Keweenaw. Sailed with Bill, then bought a sailboat of their own... then another one. Bought their first home. Welcomed their sweet dog Sully. Shot weddings and elopements together. Ate at The Fitz more times than they can count. Chased Great Lakes lighthouses. And have fallen asleep to way too many Great Lakes shipwreck documentaries on YouTube. One of the coolest parts...becoming Aunt Mary and Uncle Kyle to their tiny, rad nephews. Six years in—so much love, countless memories with friends and family—and they’re just getting started.
