Beginner’s Guide to: Towels

comments 4

Towels are some of the only items on your registry that are truly everyday essentials. However, the seemingly endless options to choose from can be kind of paralyzing if you don’t know where to start. From color to size, shape, texture, detail and consistency, our beginner’s guide takes the guesswork out of towel registering so you can get back to day dreaming about that cast iron waffle maker you really need.

What are they?

Towels are truly essentials you use everyday, sometimes more.

Do I really need these?

Even if I already have towels?

Yup! From a practical standpoint, you both use them all the time and wear and tear is the nature of the product, so it’s worth stocking up. How annoyed would you be if you opted out of towel registering and a few months after the wedding, your trusty, old towels started to fray?

How many do I need?

We suggest between 8-12 bath towels per two-person household. You can opt for less hand towels as they tend to get the least use and we suggest more washcloths if makeup removal is part of you daily routine.

What material is right for me?

We suggest going with cotton-blends for an absorbent fabric that feels great against your skin.

What styles are right for me?

All White Everything

Simple Life, Rice Towel $12- $90

Legend has it that stark white towels are more absorbent than their dyed counterparts, and it makes sense that instead of holding color, the non-dyed fibers can retain more water. If you’re looking for classic style that’s easy to wash, go all white. Add a little fringe for a tasteful detail.

Waterworks Studio, Perennial Bath Sheet – $50

If you love to cozy up in a big, luxurious towel after a hot soak, bath sheets are for you. They are bigger – we’re talking way bigger – than your average towel and make for a spa-like experience in the comfort of your very own home.

Coyuchi, Air Weight 6-Piece Towel Set – $134

If you go crazy for consistency or just want a one-stop-shop, a set is the way to go. This six-piecer takes all the guess work out of towel shopping and comes with two bath towels, two hand towels and two washcloths. Choose your favorite color and you’re set.

Waterworks Studio, Subway 3-Piece Towel Set – $73

Texture is a great way to add just a little flavor to your bathroom without changing your color scheme. The different textures feel great against your skin and even act as a gentle exfoliant as you dry off. Plus, they can be more absorbent than their untextured counterparts as they wick the water away from your skin.

Simple Life, Silk Peshtemal Towel – $56

Now that we got the basics out of the way, it’s time for a little fun. Mix-and-match colors and patterns for a fun take on an everyday necessity. Pull in hues from your bed linens for some consistency or even go with striking patterns reminiscent of the day you two met.
