How We Got Here

Chapter One - a warm summer day in August 2013

We met just a few days before starting community college together. We had both joined Campus Country, a cover band at Northeast Mississippi Community College, and were there the week before the camp week to help set up the practice room. Because of different roles in the band (Emily-guitar and Kurt-Singer), there were little interactions between the two until later in the spring semester of their freshman year. A spark of interest ignited and eventually, she needed help jumping off her car. He came to the rescue. A friendship blossomed between us ever since then, until we went on our first date in August of 2014.

How He Popped the Question

Chapter Two - a hot summer day in June 2019

We were set up to go on a date, and he had promised to plan the whole date. So, she left work early to meet him at her parent's house. When he got there, he said they had a little time to kill, so he walked her towards the small patio in her back yard, and we listened to John Mayer Pandora station and danced for a couple of songs. When the second song finished, he said it was time to go. For some reason, he played lovey-dovey songs, like "Mine" by Taylor Swift (banger) and "See the Light" from Disney's Tangled (one of her personal favorites). As we got into town, he said, "Before we go to dinner, I thought we'd go to Ballard park to see the ducks." She went right along with it (because ducks). He parked, acting as if he didn't know they parked in the same place that they parked on the date where he asked her to be his girlfriend. We got out and began to walk towards the water. He took her purse and sunglasses and set them to the side, smiled a big smile as he looked her in the eyes and said: "It's happening!" Then he got on one knee, pulled a ring box from his sock, looked at her and said: "Will you marry me?" She, of course, said yes. From across the pond, their families cheered as they hugged and made their way across to celebrate. Long-distance is finally coming to an end and we can't wait to have you celebrate this with us!
